Rainy Badlands

So about that whole "it being January thing?" Apparently it isn't because Brad, Ben, Cameron, and I went out to Teddy Roosevelt National park and it definitely rained a lot more than it snowed (though it did a bit of that too.)

(This is going to be a pretty image heavy post, so be prepared. Also, all images taken with either my Nikon D4s with the Nikon 200-500 f/5.6E or my Fujifilm X-T1 with the Fuji 16-55 f/2.8WR.)

However, that rain/snow mixture made the orange grass really explode with color. It also made it SUPER muddy in a lot of places, but that just added to the experience, methinks.

We had gotten up super early to drive out in hopes of a great sunrise (or "sunset" as Brad liked to call it) and of course when we got there we were greeted by what? Grey.

Despite it being fairly cold and rainy, we did manage to come across a good amount of wildlife. Pronghorn, Bison, Deer, Turkeys, and Prairie Dogs, mainly. Pronghorn, though, are always my favorite.

And of course the obligatory Bison photos. I try to not take too many of them when I am out there, but since they were the majority of the creatures that we saw I had to take something.

These 5 look like they are posing for the album cover for their 90's rap album.

And we saw some turkeys.

And a super close prairie dog, chillin' in his hole.

But my favorite was this bunny that was just hanging out like 5 feet from me for quite a while. Of course I didn't have my long lens on me at that point, but I did all right with my wider one. Then I went and got my longer one, though.

Of course no outing would be complete without photos of the people you went with!

And end it with the selfie, of course.

And as always there were plenty of nice landscapes to be had as well! The grass was so orange it was crazy. Especially with the rain, which always makes the colors pop.

Got a couple nice panoramas as well.

Despite the weather (or maybe because of it) we all still had a really great time at the park!

And I'll leave you with a nice photo of the mud on my boots!

Thanks for reading!
