Indianapolis Nighttime

Since I already have a couple of posts made up that have happened since this one was started, I figured that I should finish it up and get it posted.

We went to Indianapolis, Indiana for Thanksgiving with my Wife's family. It takes a couple plane rides to get there from Bismarck, but fortunately they are relatively short and painless, so we made it there without incident. Thanksgiving was good, lots of good food and such, but I guess the main point of this post falls somewhere else.

We stayed in the massive superfancy JW Mariott in Downtown Indianapolis for our last night there, and went out both that evening into the heart of downtown and also the next morning and brought a couple cameras with us.

I'll start with a photo of the view that we had from our room below:

I set up my tripod with my D4 right behind the curtains of our room in order to block as much of the light as possible, and I think I got a few pretty decent shots. We also had a decent view of Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Colts play.

Speaking of football, when we got into the hotel to check in we walked through the revolving glass doors and bam! There was the entire Washington Redskins! Apparently they were staying at the hotel before their game the next day. It is the nicest hotel in the city, so it totally makes sense.

This next one is a decent image that shows pretty much the entirety of the view out our window, taken with my Fuji X-T1 and a Rokinon 8mm fisheye. Lots of parking garage there, which is why I took more zoomed in photos with the other camera. Still a very good view that is hard to get into photos.

But that is enough about the hotel. I am more interested in the city itself, so we set off in search of some food with the D4 and X-T1 in tow (I had the D4 and my wife had the little fuji cam).

It really isn't a long walk to get anywhere in downtown Indianapolis, compared to other cities that I have been in (namely Chicago and New York), so it was nice to be able to walk around the city without having to worry about public transit or a taxi. I'll post a quick gallery of some of the lesser photos that I took as we walked around.
This being a big city it has its fair share of people who are homeless. If I have my camera with my and I get asked for money, I'll generally trade a buck or two for a picture, so I got a couple very nice photos that way. Maybe by posting photos I can get some more awareness to this. Not on my blog here that no one reads, of course,  but maybe somewhere.

Since Indianapolis is called "Circle City" (something I learned while we were there a couple weeks ago), we then went into the city center around their massive monument, which they hang lights from and call "The Largest Christmas Tree in the World." Now it isn't really a tree, but I guess that is just typical Indiana, trying to find something to be the best at. That being said it does still look very nice.

There were a ton of people around the base of the tree, so it was fun to walk around there and try to get photos of the people and carriages and cars and streets from there. I really like how I sort of captured the activity level going on around downtown in the photo below. It is good to see a city that is still vibrant and doing well.

That darn Chase tower keeps getting in the way.

And one more for funsies, this time with the X-T1 and fisheye lens!

And that is about it for the nighttime photos. I'll do a separate post for the daytime shots, as they are different and this post is already getting to be a bit long in the tooth. I'll also have a post about the Indianapolis Children's Museum coming soon too, so watch for that as it is actually interesting!
