After being conveniently gone for quite a few of the last Bismarck Bobcats home games, I finally got around to one of their games, and boy was it a good one! The final score ended up being Bobcats 8 Wilderness 4. The Bobcats came back from a 4-2 deficit in the first period to own the second and third periods.
Now I have gotten both a new camera and a new lens since shooting at the last game we went to, so my wife and I headed out, her with the new camera old lens, me with old camera new lens (if that makes sense). She was using my "new" Nikon D3s and my older 70-200 f/2.8 VR1, and I was using my "old" Nikon D4 with my brand new 70-200 f/2.8 VR2. Man that is a crazy sharp lens. I definitely feel that I got more keepers with that combo than when I was using my old 70-200 on either my D3 (which I sold a long time ago) or on my D4.
That being said, I did use my D3s for a few frames here and there (since it is new to me and I want to get used to it), and it did a fantastic job. I can definitely tell that the Autofocus is better than that on my D800 or my old D3. This frame above here is one of my favorites from the night aside from that first awesome save.
With the final score being 8-4 there were a lot of goals to keep track of, but I managed to get a couple of them. When the Wilderness was winning handily the crowd was really subdued, but I think that they really helped the Bobcats out when they started making their comeback. The better the Bobcats played the more excited the crowd got, and that helped the team out, which helped out the crowd, and so on. When the Bobcats scored their last goal on an un-protected net the crowd went crazy! That was an awesome moment.
I think that is enough about the game. I'll post a gallery of the rest of the photos here for future reference.
Thanks for reading! I think I am getting better at hockey photos, hopefully that shows.
