4K Sunset Timelapses

As I have been making a few more timelapses lately, I decided to get my hands on a real timelapse program, LRTimelapse. Goodness, it is amazing. IT makes the whole process SO much easier. It heavily reduces flickering caused by exposure changes from either the lens or from shooting in aperture priority mode, and it actually allowed me to shoot my first two real sunset timelapses, and even export them in 4K!

This first one was just for the sun and the reflection off the water. Shot with my Nikon D4 and 24-70.
This second one is definitely the better of the two. Shot with my Nikon D3s with the 14-24mm.
Shooting in aperture priority meant that the camera fairly smoothly changed the exposure as the sun went down, as usually when you are doing a timelapse you want to have your exposure constant between all of the frames. But with sunset you can't do that, as the light is changing dramatically. So hence you use aperture priority, which changes the shutter speed as the light starts failing. If I remember correctly the exposure went from 1/4000th of a second at the beginning to around 1/10th of a second at the end. I really want to do a day->sunset->night->stars timelapse. Maybe next weekend if the weather stays nice.

I'll finish off with a still frame from the timelapse above, plus some other stills that I took with my Wife's D7000 and my 35.

So a really nice night. I'll probably end up getting this above frame printed large. One of the perks of shooting 1000 frames in RAW, then every single one is printable! (At least of your subject matter is good, that is...) Here are my cameras doing their thing!

And an 8-shot panorama, since the 35 on the D7000 behaved like a 50 I had to improvise.

Thanks for watching!
